How do fermented drinks like kombucha or other fermented foods affect your gut?
Good fermentation allows you to grow probiotics…
Probiotics help you digest food…
I used to think that is was your stomach doing all the work…
In the case of fat, I used to think it was the liver doing all the work at breaking down fat… what I started to understand was that different foods need different enzymes to be digested…
Good digestive enzymes come from probiotics…
The probiotics that digest cod liver oil for example aren’t the same that would digest coconut fat…
If I want to digest coconut fat better, I would seek a fermented coconut food or drink to get coconut type probiotics in my gut…
I used to feel so tired all the time…
To get more energy I decided to try a nose to tail carnivore diet (primal fat burner diet), but at the time I couldn’t digest protein well…
So started experimenting with a plant based ketogenic diet instead…
One of my favorite smoothies I used in that diet was my
[Mint Chocolate Smoothie]
3 tbsp of organic centrifuged coconut oil
1 organic avocado
3 tbsp of organic heirloom hemp seeds (hulled)
1 tbsp of raw organic wild chlorella or spirulina
2 tbsp of Heirloom “Arriba Nacional” cacao nibs
1 tbsp raw organic maca root powder
Mint as garnish
To improve my digestion to the fats in this coconut oil based drink I experimented by making a coconut probiotic drink…
[Pineapple Coconut Ale]
1/4 organic pineapple
1 L coconut water
1/4 Coconut Meat
Fermented with these probiotics
Bifidobacterium lactis
Bifidobacterium breve
Bifidobacterium longum
Lactobacillus acidophilus
Lactobacillus casei
Lactobacillus plantarum
Lactobacillus paracasei
Lactobacillus salivarius
Lactobacillus rhamnosus
Lactobacillus bulgaricus
I noticed that the better I am at digesting the food I’m eating, my gut gets cleaner…
… a cleaner gut is what allows me to optimize my microbiome…
Pineapple has a really good protein digestive enzyme called bromelain…
As I started to grow more of these coconut pineapple probiotics in my gut, I started to digest protein better which allowed me to add other foods to my diet and become fully keto adapted…
What is keto adapted?
It means you are able to get energy by digesting and uptaking nutrients from healthy fats…
So the better I am at digesting fats like coconut oil or fat from grass fed & grass finished beef the more keto adapted I become…
This gives me flexibility to burn either fat or sugar as a source of energy…
You must also adapt and learn how to burn (good) sugar properly…
Good digestion is what the body needs to get energy from food…
That’s why fermented foods are a staple in my diet…
