Imagine a fish tank that never gets cleaned…

As time goes by, algae and other stuff starts growing turning the water green, murky and stinky…

Would fish be able to live in that environment?

Your body is like a fish tank… probiotics are like fish swimming all over your body…

Probiotics, like the cells of your body are made of water…

… and that’s why clean water is important…

Everyday our bodies are attacked with all kinds of toxins that the body absorbs… over time, as your body absorbs toxins, the water in your body becomes toxic… as that water becomes toxic, it creates an environment that allows bad bacteria to grow…

Bad bacteria drains your energy, steals nutrients from the food that you eat and they produce even more toxins which can throw you into a downward spiral where you can’t lose weight no matter what…

How do you use clean water?

Imagine a glass of wine… let the wine represent dirty water in a cell… drinking clean water allows you to dilute the dirty water… you will need to drink a lot of water to fully dilute the dirty water that is currently in your body…

This is why I take the cleanliness of my water so seriously and why I’m so picky about the water I drink…

Most people think it’s okay to drink bottled water not realizing they are drinking plastic residue (toxins)… they’ll drink tap water ran through a filter without knowing all the contaminants in their water not knowing if the filter they are using is removing everything (more than likely it’s not removing everything)…

Making sure that you drink clean water may sound too basic… but let’s layer that information…

Just like your body is made up of water, the food that you eat is also made up of water…

If the food you eat is exposed to herbicides, pesticides, and other toxic stuff, then you have to understand that the water that makes up that food will be toxic… if you eat food that is exposed to dirty water, you will be consuming toxins and making the water in your body toxic…

Most people overlook the importance of clean water, which is why most of our food supply is toxic and most people don’t even bat an eye…

My wish is that slowly over time you start voting with your dollars by supporting businesses that are conscious and aware… and that by educating yourself, you can start educating others…

This concept alone is the reason why I don’t eat food from convenience stores… this is why I seek out food from local farmers… the food that you eat affects your hydration…

Hydration is the first skill of Beer Diet Project…

How does your diet affect your hydration?

Energy production requires water…

Water is the foundation to a healthy diet, yet very few people pay attention to the type of water they are drinking…

They’ll spend hundreds on supplements to lose weight, improve digestion, etc., but they don’t bother to look at the type of water they are drinking…

The first lesson I learned from brewing beer is that you can’t brew good beer with 💩💩 water… When it comes to gut health, the same principles applies: you can’t grow probiotics in your gut if you drink dirty water!!

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to water… To get started you can start by making slight improvements towards the cleanliness of your water… as you get more advanced, you’ll realize how important clean water is to properly detox… you can’t get rid of toxins in your body if you are drinking dirty water…

Also, as you progress through the Beer Diet Project journey, this will serve as the foundation to understand more advanced water principles when we start dealing with alkaline water, structured water, living water, etc.

I can geek out on this topic, but for now, I hope you get the point… clean water is important to grow probiotics and to avoid bad bacteria from growing in your gut…

To get more energy, start by removing sources of toxins entering your body… this is the easiest improvement that will have the biggest impact on your gut health because clean water helps you dilute toxins…

In phase 2 of the Beer Diet Project journey, we go over detoxing and fat loss… none of the strategies in phase 2 will work if you continue to drink dirty water…

So here are my top 3 sources of clean water…

Natural Spring Water

Nature provides… learning about gut health isn’t just about you. It’s about learning to take care of the resources you have at your disposal.

Getting water from a natural spring isn’t just about taking. It’s about what you can do to protect the spring to keep it from getting contaminated and keeping the source of water clean.

You can visit the Find A Spring website and look for natural springs near you not only so you can take gracefully, but also to help protect those resources so that you (and others) can enjoy clean water.

The advantage of finding a good source of spring water is that the water is clean and has minerals which are needed for proper hydration… (more on this on the next lesson)

If you are not able to get to a source of spring water then this is where beer brewing skills come into play… brewing beer taught me how to make my own water… to make your own water from scratch, you must start with a good base of clean water…

The cleanest source of water is by definition pure H2O…

  • Tasteless
  • Odorless
  • Colorless

Pure H2O water is made by distilling water…

Distilled Water

How does nature clean water?

It evaporates it into steam, turns it into clouds then it condenses it back into distilled water which then precipitates as rain…

That is exactly how you make distilled water… you boil water into steam, trap the steam, let it condense and you collect the condensed water…

The most important thing to understand about distilled water is that it’s “empty”. There is nothing dissolved into it… it’s H2O in the purest sense… That’s both good and bad… it’s good because it’s about as clean as you can get water to be, when there is nothing dissolved into it. There is no chlorine, chloramines, fluoride, lead or whatever other toxic stuff tends to dissolve into water…

The bad thing about distilled water is that if it has nothing dissolved into it, then it has no minerals which are needed for proper hydration.

Think of distilled water as the base. It’s a blank canvas. It’s clean because it has nothing dissolved into it. You can take this water and do just about whatever you wish with it… add minerals, alkalize it, etc.

WARNING!… distilled water is very powerful cleaning water. When there is nothing dissolved into water, it makes water that much more potent and more likely for things to dissolve into it.

A common mistake people make when they start their Beer Diet Project journey is that they go get distilled water and they come back saying something like

“Hey, I started drinking distilled water, but I don’t feel good”…

When I ask, “how are you making your distilled water?”…

They will usually say “I buy it from the store and then add the minerals”…

That’s when I point out that if you buy distilled water from the store, you are buying distilled water in a plastic jug. That means that plastic residue is leaching into the water. If you drink distilled water out of a plastic jug, you are essentially drinking plastic residue toxins that dissolved into the water and that’s why you won’t feel good…

So when it comes to understanding clean water, I hope you are understanding why it’s important to drink clean water, and also how to properly handle and keep your water clean…

To me this is simple, but some people don’t take this seriously… imagine if I just said that to hydrate you need to drink more water… what happens if the water you are drinking has toxins? Is drinking more water good advice if your water isn’t clean?

I don’t know…

I don’t know what’s worse… drinking dirty water or dehydration?

That’s is one reason why I don’t tell people what to do…

People think they understand what I understand, but many don’t understand or take this as serious as I do so they do things with their diet that’s not good thinking that they are doing what I do…

This is the case for every step of the Beer Diet Project journey… that’s why you must understand what you are doing before you start making changes to your diet…

Let me emphasize that I’m not a doctor and health is your responsibility…

I can only share what I do and educate… but you must be willing to study and not expect things to be given to you in a pill form where you have to do nothing…

The point of this lesson is to help you understand the importance of clean water… you must now take responsibility to go source out clean water and verify that it is indeed clean…

This is the most basic human skill that should be taught in school… how to get clean water…

Making distilled water isn’t a straightforward process… results vary depending on the type of water you are starting with and how much toxic waste there is in it to begin with…

To make distilled water I start out with reverse osmosis which is the second cleanest source of water besides distilled water…

I use an Aquanui Steampure Water Distiller to make my distilled water.

Distilled water is a blank slate… it’s clean water… it has no minerals… you’ll learn more about adding minerals to water and how to use distilled water when detoxing as you go through the Beer Diet Project journey…

Reverse Osmosis

People often ask me “I live in (insert city name)… is my water safe?”

My answer is that I don’t know… I’m not a water chemistry expert, but probably not…

People ask me if their “Berkley Filter” is good… and my answer is that I don’t know… it’s not the filter, it’s what’s in your water? that’s not easy to find out… most cities put out a water quality report, but there’s only so much they can test and a lot more that they don’t test…

… as simple as pure water is if we are talking about pure H2O, water can become a very complex topic… is your water soft water, or is it hard water? are there gasses dissolved into it?

I’ve been studying water chemistry for years (for brewing purposes)… there’s so much to learn, I can’t possibly cover it all in this blog post and you won’t learn everything in one sitting. You will learn a lot more about water as you move along the Beer Diet Project journey. I’m condensing the most important things you need to know so can move through the process faster.

We will layer more knowledge on water like learning how to use alkaline water and how to structure & mineralize water…

Think of clean water this way… if you don’t clean and filter your water you become the filter… reverse osmosis is a pretty good way to clean water… does it get everything out? Probably not… but it’s good enough. Reverse Osmosis is my personal lowest standard for clean water…

When it comes to drinking clean water, I prefer…

#1 Spring water (must verify that it’s not contaminated)

#2 Distilled water

#3 Reverse osmosis

That’s it…

What about well water?

Again, I don’t know… most well water sources are good sources like spring water, unless they are contaminated, which is why you must verify and test the water…

To make Beer Diet Project work, you need clean water… you have to fully understand what “clean water” means… (i.e. the purified water in plastic bottles that so many people drink is NOT clean water)… drinking anything other than clean water is the biggest mistake most people make with their diet…

Water serves many functions in our bodies…

I want to focus on the main two functions of water I focused on to improve my health and vitality…

#1 Water cleans

#2 Water hydrates

When I would brew beer, I would use water with minerals because minerals are needed to activate enzymes and digest the nutrients from grains…

However, when I would clean my brewing equipment, I would use distilled water (no minerals) because it cleans better and you can avoid “beer stone” (calcium deposits)…

When you hydrate you are adding conductive minerals to your body to activate enzymes in your body…

When you detox you are cleaning your body and you are looking to avoid calcium deposits like kidney stones, gallstones and other calcium oxalates…

When hydrating you are looking to mineralize your body…

On the next lesson we’re going to learn more about why you need minerals to get more energy and better sleep…

      No plastic for drinking water!

      • Lisa

All I know is that if you don’t clean and filter your water you become the filter… I love this quote from you!

We have a well and had extensive testing done and have found bromide in our water. We can’t find anyone who can tell us where in our $19,000 filtration system, that this is being created.

In the meantime we are buying Earth2O bottled water. I take Re-mute trace minerals (RNARest brand ) , Re-Mag (same company ) and do sole in warm water with lemon in the morning.

        • Hip Hip Jorge

Halogens like bromide are hard to get rid of… that’s why some people will double & triple distill… glad you bring this up to help bring awareness!

    • Kaitlyn

I had no idea that distilled water absorbed plastic residue from the bottles 😳🤢

      • Hip Hip Jorge

Yay!! One of the main lessons I need to get across!!
        🍻🤙

    • Jule Stupfel

Well so far so good. I have a distiller and make my own water with it. Then I votex it with magnets and a balanced mix of minerals in a water structure machine to restructure the water to put the right minerals back in. My problem is they keep poisoning the water to my house with flouride. This is a toxic contaminant the FDA outlawed disposal of without a fine which is why they hide it in drinking water. It’s NOT the same flouride in toothpaste like they make you believe. Its the toxic bio-hazard stuff. Look it up.

      • Hip Hip Jorge

        Love this!!
This is the level of awareness people need to have when it comes to drinking water!
        🍻🤙

    • Anj

Wow wow wow! A lot to think about in this blog I’ve heard a lot about all kinds of water . So I’m curious, I go to a machine that goes through like 7 stages I believe Reverse osmosis one of the steps. But I do put into 5 gallon plastic jugs.

      • Hip Hip Jorge

BPA free are okay for RO water…
Later on when you’re dealing with distilled and real spring water, glass is the preferred way to go

    • Hope

Really great information! It makes me excited to focus on clean water! Ordered the suggested items for minerals / salts etc

      • Hip Hip Jorge

        So excited for you Hope!
        Gotta love fermentation

I have a distiller & make my own water- so that’s a start. Thank you for all the great information. I am really excited to start this journey.

      • Hip Hip Jorge

It’s so awesome to see more people who are already advanced and understand the importance of clean water!

I never valued the importance of water until I moved from the Midwest to the desert in Arizona. There is definitely a BIG difference in water quality depending on location. I used to filter my tap water with a Britta filter and it was fine in the Midwest but here this water is so sketchy I don’t even like washing my hair with it let alone drink it! If I could drive to the spring in Sedona more often I would. I love the “Find a Spring” website and look forward to some fun adventures to locate others. Cheers 🙂

      • Hip Hip Jorge

Yes!! Water varies so much by location which is why it’s best to understand the fundamental principles of water like the importance of it being clean… love Sedona spring water!

    • Christina

I love my water machine. It’s like life in a jar when I drink it!!
Add minerals and it’s even more!!!
Can’t wait to start over again!!

      • Hip Hip Jorge

Love it!! So glad to see you sticking with it!!

One positive being friends with the head chemist at the water department is he knows all water treated and untreated on our island. That said, it’s a bit of a swampy hike to our nearest, clean, tapped straight from inside the mountain spring, and you can only carry so much water out at a time. Luckily we have untreated well water at the house so we don’t need to deal with bathing and inhaling chlorine and fluoride daily [tho it is a bit alkaline]. And we use a Propur filter in our Berkey which seems to do a good job. Been on the lookout for a while for a decent distiller… thinking we should just use our big copper still in between hydrosol runs (tho it could impart some copper into the distillation)… oh just thinking a’loud 🙂

      • Hip Hip Jorge

Copper does have some benefits especially when you’re not sure about a spring or well water… For distilled water I prefer glass

    • Joel

      Good information.

      • Hip Hip Jorge

        Thank you!
        🍻🤙

    • Hadi

I guess you didn’t include mineral water in top 3 because it’s usually provided in plastic bottles which still causes plastic to leach out?

      • Hip Hip Jorge

        You got it!
        🍻🤙

    • Ashley

distilled water dissolves easily therefore distilled water in a plastic jug is contaminated with plastic. Drinking pure water is one of the most important parts of your diet

      • Hip Hip Jorge

        Yes!!
        🍻🤙

    • Tina

I am a big fan of spring water – but don’t live near a good spring right now. I knew plastics leached contaminants into our water but it is good to be reminded! I carry water in a stainless steel water jug and the biggest takeaway for me is to ALWAYS have my own fresh, filtered water on hand.

      • Hip Hip Jorge

Yes!! Look forward to following your journey!
        🍻🤙

    • Gemma

Distilled water bottle in the market is contaminated, water is the main source of our body.

      • Hip Hip Jorge

        Yes! 🍻🤙

    • Gemma

I gained informative info on your blogs, I am thirsty for more. Our body needs water more than anything what we put on our mouth .

      • Hip Hip Jorge

        Absolutely!
Glad you are enjoying it so far!
Look forward to following your journey…

I known that “drinking distilled water from a plastic jug it’s not good. I tested my distilled water at home and there was found Legionella((
