herbal supplements hypothyroidism

I don’t talk about herbs much because it’s more of an advanced topic, but I don’t exactly consider these “supplements” as much as I consider them my new foods…

I came across ayurvedic herbs and other herbs while I was trying to figure out how to take control of my health and fight against hypothyroidism.

I knew little about them, but as I started to use them, I realized that adding these to my diet was the best thing I could do for my health.

I like to emphasize that my focus has always been on restructuring the gut flora… so I talk a lot about probiotics, juicing, and fasting… these herbs have just helped me to either detox my body (clean out bad bacteria) and feed or nourish my body (including good bacteria)

Here are the top 6 herbs I’ve come across that helped me… it is important that you research the proper use of them and understand that I had been cleansing myself for months through juicing and fasting before I started using herbs.

Maca Powder – This is one that I condider food for glands… it is rich in minerals, vitamins, amino acids, fatty acids, sterols, alkaloids, and more… I love adding maca to smoothies and I can definitely feel more energy when I use it constantly day after day…

Ashwagandha – This is more of a detoxifier… some call it the “Indian Gingseng”. I started taking this as a way to strengthen my immune system and as you may know, 80% of your immune system relies on your gut flora… (another reason why I focused on probiotics). Also add this to smoothies.

Bacopa Monieri – Another cleansing herb I used, which I highly recommend is Bacopa Monieri… now this one, is powerful and you don’t want to take it blindly… although you can add it to smoothies, I never liked the flavor, so I took this through capsules size 00… I started with 2 in the morning and fasting as long as I could… then increased to 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon… again juice fasting… until I worked my way up to 2 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon and 2 in the evening…

Shilajit – This is another detoxifier, and quite potent one… another one to ease into… I do like this one for smoothies since it has a chocolate-like or mocha like flavor to it… originally I came across shilajit because I was looking to restructure my gut flora and this is one of the most powerful Ayurvedic herbs to strengthen your immune system.

There are other ayurvedic herbs, which I have not tried yet, but I’m looking into like holy basil extract, amla extract, and mucuna pruriens… when I try these I’ll definitely update this list and let you know my experience…

Again, the purpose of this post is just to introduce you to the herbs, and not so much a comprehensive guide on their benefits or how to use them…
